Exercise No 1 – Walk your dog

This is one of the best ways that you and your dog can keep fit. Go for a long walk in the morning or in the evening, when the Sun is down. This will give a great cardio workout for you and your pet. A walk is also a great way of building a relationship with your dog. A proper walk not only tires your dog out, it also gives him the necessary bonding time with his master. Always remember, a fat dog means an unhealthy owner!

Exercise No 2 – Play Fetch

This is one of the most fun games that every dog likes to play. Dogs love to fetch their toys – Balls, Rings, Frisbees, Chew toys, Kong toys, etc. Grab a toy and head outdoors. Pass it over to your dog and then run with him as he goes to retrieve it. Once it's back in your hand, throw it another 20 to 30 feet away and both of you can begin chasing after it again or this time maybe let him chase the toy himself and bring it to you. Play this in an open area like a garden or a park where you can throw the toy within sight. Who knew your dog could run so fast!!

Exercise No 3 - Swim together

Most dogs take to water easily. If they do not, then take them in slowly, one step at a time. He may be quite timid initially, but once he gets the technique and sees that he is safe and has you around, he will be a swimming champ in a few hours, even better than you! Jump into the water yourself and go for a swim on a hot summer day. Swimming is one of the best ways to bond and beat the heat with your best canine friend. Preferably for initial swims, choose a swimming pool over a lake or open water body. This is for your dog’s safety.

Exercise No 4 – DOGA

Doga as the name suggests is Dog Yoga. The practice involves doing yoga along with your dog. The technique involves muscle relaxation, stretching and massages for both you and your dog. This is a great way to bond with your dog too.  Go to a professional Doga trainer and get yourself enrolled today. If your city does not have a doga center, visit a yoga professional who can help you and your dog practice yoga together.

Exercise No 5 – Socialise your dog with other dogs

Dogs enjoy meeting their friends and this many a times gives them a good workout session too. They enjoy playing games together. Hiding and finding toys and running games keep them occupied and tire them out. However, do not try this if your dog is not social. Make sure your dog feels safe with the rest of the pack and is comfortable with all the animals present. This will avoid unnecessary fights and conflicts between dogs and owners. This is a great way to exercise small dogs as many of the other exercises may tire out small dogs easily. A run around in the park with their friends many a times makes a dog happier than anything in the whole world!
